Hey friends,
It has been a few months since the last update, but rest assured, a ton of work has been happening behind the scenes. For starters, Planet Repossession Force 2.0 is now live on TTS and printed for a new stage of physical playtesting. So what's new in this updated version?
Through extensive playtesting throughout Q4 2023 and Q1 2024 on TTS and at live events such as the LevelUp Winter Retreat, a whole motherload of data has been gathered and synthesized to create a more fun, tactical, streamlined, and exciting experience that ages better with each play.
The game is no longer about territory control as it once was. Now, it is simply focused on the core aspect of what makes this experience unique: destroying hostile NPCs. The only path to victory is the destruction of the most powerful enemy on the map, the Final Raid. Doing away with the fiddliness of "marking territory" with chips, we have foregone the "pathing" and are fully embracing this as a roguelite. What is a roguelite? It is a genre of game where you have a character explore a map to find things and fight enemies, and dying is more of a learning process than a permanent endgame trigger (which would define the more brutal "rogue-like" gaming genre that involves permadeath.) So when you die or retreat from combat in Planet Repossession Force, you start from scratch on the map... but with all the loot, power-ups, and knowledge you've gained thus far; making each subsequent run more achievable.
As always, we are not promising an ambitious and sprawling title with deep and complex strategies or an epic story campaign. Instead, we promise a nail-biting dice-chucker where players can feel badass but still vulnerable in a unique sci-fi setting: the hostile wilderness of an abandoned future Earth.
Aside from attending conventions, I've been reaching out to other designers and online forums to connect more with the community. For now, I need to be fully transparent about two things: I am currently using AI art for the prototype as that cuts costs and time for such an iterative process by quite a lot (but plan to hire artists for the final product.) Also, I fully support content creators in this space since they are key to growing the player base in this wonderful hobby. I have joined the Patreons and Discords of a few that I closely follow and plan to be part of even more creator communities. Their unique channel topics and diverse voices are much appreciated and needed in this industry.
